Exploring Green Delhi

In Delhi, the capital of India, what people often show on media feels very different from reality. But there is another side to the city that deserves attention. Green spaces across Delhi are slowly shaping a better, calmer future. It is important for us to explore and understand how green the city can truly be.

Let me share a few places from my experience that can help you relieve the stress of pollution and discover a refreshing side of Delhi.

Humayun's TombSundar Nursery Lake

Sundar Nursery

Situated in the heart of Delhi, Sundar Nursery is one of the most iconic green spaces in the city. It offers a mix of fountains, a museum, and even a café, making it more than just a park. It is also located close to India Gate, which makes it quite accessible.

You can enjoy a peaceful picnic here if you are lucky enough to find a good spot. During winters, the place becomes even more lively with concerts happening in the center. Humayun's Tomb is right next door and adds to the overall charm of the visit.

Parking is quite convenient and easily available. However, it is best to visit on a weekday, especially during morning hours, as traffic around the area can get exhausting.

From my experience, Sundar Nursery is one of the best places for walks, picnics, and simply pausing for a while to unwind.

Aravalli Biodiversity Park

If you truly want to disconnect and find peace, Aravalli Biodiversity Park is ideal. Located behind Vasant Kunj in a relatively isolated space, it offers a quiet escape from the noise of the city.

As soon as you step inside, you are welcomed by bougainvillea flowers and a semi-circular walking path that is perfect for short strolls. If you are feeling adventurous, you can go deeper into the trails and explore the forest area.

Going inside the forest feels quite wild. I personally do not know where the trails actually end. It is better not to go too deep, but even exploring the nearby areas is enough to make you feel calm and refreshed.

A similar place is Sanjay Van, which is hardly 20 minutes away from Aravalli Biodiversity Park. You will find more people there along with better-defined trails. However, it feels slightly darker because of dense trees. That said, it offers a beautiful sunset spot.

Green Avenue Delhi

Green Avenue

Green Avenue is one of the finest places for running or cycling. I have personally cycled a lot in this area and found it very enjoyable.

It is one of the most posh areas, with large mansions and plenty of greenery surrounding the space. It is perfect for starting your morning as it is quiet and feels quite safe, largely due to the well-maintained surroundings and residential presence.

Honorable Mentions

The above places are my personal recommendations based on my visits. However, there are other popular green spots that people love as well.

Nehru Park is especially beautiful during the tulip bloom season, and you will often see runners there on Sundays.

Lodhi Garden is well known for its walking paths and continues to be a favorite for many visitors.

Exploring these places shows that Delhi has a greener, calmer side that often goes unnoticed. Sometimes, all it takes is stepping into one of these spaces to feel a little more at peace.
